Vermont Railroad Museum's Railroad Campus, with the highly visible 494 Engine as its centerpiece, will be a recreational park for cultural and community events along the White River. Within the Campus, restored historic buildings will house railroad collections and educational displays for the general public and rail enthusiasts to explore. As currently envisioned, the campus buildings could include the old fire station, the Gates Library building, the White River Junction Roundhouse, the B&M Freight House and potential new construction. The recent placement of the Vermont Visitors' Center in the Amtrak station will help draw railfans, tourists, and other visitors to the Railroad Campus. |
